Knowledge by itself is not powerful at all. It is your
ability to apply the knowledge, application of relevant
knowledge and skills to achieve your personal and
professional goals. There are so many unemployed
university graduates bewildered they are not employable,

they cannot apply the same business principles to a

When was the last time you did a Knowledge and Skills
Audit? A list of all the knowledge and skills you have
acquired over your lifetime. You would be amazed of what
you know and the skills you have learnt. Do you apply
this knowledge? Do you use your skills?
Is there a point to all that knowledge you have spent
years learning? Or are you just the encyclopedia, ready
to spew out the information to anyone else who needs it.
To the people who will actually use it.
The application of knowledge and skills is a skill in
itself.
Develop strategies to practice and use this skill.
A good training programme or seminar will train you
in three areas:
- Declarative (Theoretical),
- Procedural (How to)
And the essential ingredient,
- Conditional (Where and how to apply it)
Start choosing learning strategies that will teach
you all three.
Don’t just be a Knowledge Junkie, be an Action
Junkie. Be an active player not just the one with the
all the knowledge that sits on the sidelines and watches
the less informed, the not so smart, the half your age
and the what would they know pass you by.

Presentation skills are a must have skill in today’s
competitive business world.
Tip Number 6:
Make a difference.
When you present do you let your ego control the room
and the presentation?
The best way to judge your presentation is not by the
sound of the applause. “Is it getting results?”
Three levels that you can judge your presentation:
- Your audience applauses you.
(They love you,
they appreciate you and they want to thank you – Makes
you feel great)
- You change the way your audience
thinks.
(You’re on the right track – so close, but
you’ll need to come back)
- You change the way your
audience behaves.
(Results – Your presentation is
structured and delivered with behavioral change in mind
– You may not even get your applause to make you feel
good – but that’s okay because its not about you, it’s
about your presentation making a difference for the
people who have come to listen)
If no behavioral change occurs as a result of your
presentation. You are there for entertainment value. If
that is your purpose then treasure your applause – you
deserve it.
If your purpose is something different then aim for
RESULTS.
Aim to MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
